Another divisional clash takes center stage on Thursday Night Football for the second straight week, as the New York Jets (1-1) open their home portion of the schedule against the New England Patriots (1-1).

At first glance, this might not seem like the prettiest game to bet on. Both teams possess strong defensive units, which could lead to a lower-scoring affair, but when it comes to Michigan sports betting, there are edges that can be discovered within any given contest.

Let’s try to uncork some here in the form of five prop bets that can be placed at the top MI online sportsbooks.

Greg Zuerlein Over 1.5 FGs (-120, DraftKings)

The ageless Greg Zuerlein — now in his 13th NFL season — has proven reliable time and time again. Even in his older age, he’s coming off one of the best years of his career when he connected on 35-of-38 field goal attempts; good for a 92.1 percent conversion rate, the third highest such mark of his career.

Clearly, Zuerlein is still one of the best kickers in the league and his boot isn’t running out of strength any time soon. From 40 yards and beyond during his successful 2023, the man also known as Legatron went 18-for-20.

Being a part of a competent offense now these days — which the Jets did not trot out during his first two years with the team — Zuerlein could ultimately be as busy as anyone at his position. That makes him a sneaky go-to option in both betting and fantasy football.

This next matchup opposite New England could see plenty of use from Zuerlein. Aaron Rodgers and Co. are capable of getting at least a few drives into Patriots territory and the key will be having a couple of those drives simply stall out against their opponent’s highly touted D.

Enter Zuerlein, who will get his cracks and only has to convert on two field goals for this bet at DraftKings Sportsbook to cash. A year ago, only five teams allowed more field-goal attempts than the Patriots.

Braelon Allen Over 21.5 Rushing Yards (-115, Fanatics)

Going into the new campaign, the Jets’ rushing attack was seemingly just Breece Hall and some spare parts that would barely get any run.

Au contraire, rookie Braelon Allen has impressed en route to carving out a complementary role to Hall on this offense.

The bruising 235-pound running back only received two touches in the opener but last week, Allen broke out in a big way against the Titans, racking up 33 rushing yards on seven carries — including a touchdown. He also scored on one of his two receptions, totaling 23 yards through the air as well.

For this wager at Fanatics Sportsbook, we’re just focusing on the fourth-round pick’s rushing total. So long as he gets the rock a handful of times, Allen figures to top 20 yards. A Jets-driven game script — which is how I see this game playing out — will pave the way.

Mike Williams Over 1.5 Receptions (-165, BetMGM)

This proposition is a little juicy but worth it considering how this may be the last time we’ll be able to grab talented wide-out Mike Williams at such a low receptions number.

From 2017-2022, Williams was perennially a force for the Chargers alongside Keenan Allen. Last season, though, the former No. 7 overall draft pick out of Clemson tore his ACL and was sidelined for all but three games. Hence why his prop bets are at such glaringly low numbers.

Williams has only one catch on one target thus far but that productivity is about to change with increased playing time. He went from registering just 18 percent of the snaps in Week 1 to 65 percent last week — and that usage figures to only inflate.

Well, if he’s in for — say — more than 70 percent of the plays, you have to believe Aaron Rodgers will look his way more often, especially when dealing with a tough defense, and with that should come more catches. All that’s needed is two for this prop bet at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Patriots Under 1.5 Touchdowns (+105, BetRivers)

Nailing an under on a team touchdowns prop can be extra challenging. After all, if there’s a pick-six or a fumble return for a TD by the defense, that would count against the bet. In other words, bettors can still be right about an offense lacking but still potentially lose said proposition.

That shouldn’t be an issue here, however. We like this prop bet at BetRivers Sportsbook.

So long as that is the case, we can lean on the prediction that New England’s offense won’t be doing too much with the football. This is a group that has scored 36 points through the first two ballgames, and even with some alterations to the roster, it doesn’t look like things are going to change much from last year’s effort when they tied for the fewest points in the NFL — with the lowly Carolina Panthers.

In their two meetings against the Jets a season ago, the Patriots managed only 18 points combined. Given that this is New York’s home opener, the raucous environment can only make things more difficult to get into the end zone. Chances are they won’t do that twice versus a stout Jets defense.

Jacoby Brissett Over 10.5 Rushing Yards (-120, FanDuel)

While his reputation is that of a journeyman, Jacoby Brissett has typically stayed true to his roots of being a scrambling quarterback.

That was the case in the beginning of the 31-year-old’s career and as recent as 2022, when Brissett was last a full-time starting QB in the National Football League.

During that campaign, Brissett made 11 starts under center and tallied 238 rushing yards on 47 attempts in those games — good for an average of 21.7 yards per contest.

Well, the total he has to beat here is only a mere 10.5 yards. In Brissett’s first two games of this season, he’s accumulated 38 yards (although most of that came in one game) and it appears his longtime tendency to just tuck the ball and run on occasion is never going away.

Should this game play out as projected — with the Jets leading — that points to Brissett getting more drop backs through the duration of the game. With that comes more opportunities to make a run for it.

He can potentially secure this over at FanDuel Sportsbook with one lengthy scamper, too.
