The Jewish Resource Center reported an assault against a Jewish University of Michigan student that took place Friday evening in a statement posted on their Instagram story Sunday evening.
Michigan Hillel confirmed with the Ann Arbor Police Department that the incident was not related to the student’s Jewish identity, according to a different statement posted to the Michigan Hillel Instagram story Sunday evening.
“First, there was an altercation Friday night during a party at a house of seniors from a Jewish fraternity in which a Jewish student was punched,” the statement read. “We have reached out to the student and the AAPD has confirmed with Hillel that this fight was not related to Jewish identity.”
According to JRC’s statement, the student was hospitalized to receive stitches.
“The JRC rabbis have been in contact with the student and are providing him any support he needs,” the statement read.
Hillel also announced that a group of people threw bottles at the same fraternity house Saturday evening. Hillel said AAPD and the University have confirmed this incident is also being investigated.
