HONOR, MI – In a celebration of nostalgia, this Up North drive-in theater has a new owner.
“You’ve seen the signs. You’ve heard the murmurs. And it’s true!” the Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theater announced on Facebook.
Mindi Jarman is the new owner of the business near Traverse City.
“Mindi is ready to carry on the tradition of magical movie nights under the stars, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her at the helm,” the post said. “Here’s to new beginnings and keeping the nostalgia alive!”
The business was listed for sale in February. Former owner Laura Clark is retiring.
“We want to give a heartfelt thank you to Laura Clark, who is retiring after years of dedication and passion,” the post said. “Laura has kept the Cherry Bowl’s spirit alive and created countless memories for all of us. Her legacy will forever be part of our story.”
The drive-in opened in 1953. The sprawling 10-acre grounds includes a mini golf course, a playground and a diner-style concession stand. Classic cars and a landmark chicken statue decorate the grounds.
With 275 parking spaces pointed at the largest movie screen in Northern Michigan, the theater is known for family friendly double features.
Jarman will “continue to celebrate the magic of the movies—just like we always have,” the post said.
