Michigan adds goaltender Grant Neuhardt to roster

Date:

The No. 1 Michigan hockey team has added senior goaltender Grant Neuhardt to the roster. The Michigan Daily confirmed the addition via team spokesperson.

Neuhardt is a 6-foot-1, 181 lb goaltender who catches left. A Traverse City native, he has spent the last four years with the University of Michigan men’s club hockey team, which competes in ACHA II. Through 11 games this year, Neuhardt has recorded a 6-3-1 record with a .934 save percentage and a 2.09 goals against average.

Since starting freshman goaltender Jack Ivankovic was injured in a collision with Notre Dame forward Danny Nelson on Jan. 10, the Wolverines have had just two active goaltenders: freshman goaltender Stephen Peck and sophomore goaltender Julian Molinaro. So far, Peck has been the starter, earning the wins in Michigan’s sweep of Minnesota just last weekend. Molinaro has served as the backup.

However, the Wolverines had typically utilized all three goalies in practice to give themselves flexibility in drills and allow their shooters to get more reps. With the loss of Ivankovic, Michigan has been limited in practice.

Neuhardt’s addition does not indicate a change to Ivankovic’s injury timeline. He is still out and is expected back sometime around the end of the regular season for Michigan. Neuhardt’s addition simply gives the Wolverines more flexibility and added security in goal.
