Nearly one-third of the Michigan baseball team’s home runs come from one player: junior second baseman Colby Turner. On the heels of a breakout season, Turner added to his rapidly growing resume with more conference and national accolades.
The All-Big Ten first team honoree was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest team Tuesday. The next day, Turner also earned NCBWA third-team All-American and Academic All-Big Ten honors.
Turner led the Wolverines in batting and slugging with 14 homers, 18 doubles and 55 RBIs. Along the way, Turner claimed the program’s longest hitting streak — 24 straight games.
Michigan immediately reaped the benefits of Turner’s production. At the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series in February, Turner hit one home run in each of the three games. Turner also propelled the Wolverines to their first series win against Rutgers with a three-run homer, going 4-for-4 in the pivotal Game 2. And his statistical peak came during a sweep of Maryland, where Turner added 7 RBIs from just four hits, including two homers and a double.
When Michigan needed the offensive power, Turner was there. He played in all but one of the Wolverines’ games in 2026, starting anywhere from left field to shortstop to his final position at second base.
Turner’s work in the infield complements his offensive skill. He logged a .957 fielding percentage with 90 putouts and 109 assists on the season. When Michigan needed to shut down its opponents, Turner delivered. For the final out in the Wolverines’ first sweep, Turner caught a shallow Northwestern hit and spun to deliver it to first and end the series.
It’s flashy, definitive moments like a sweep-clinching web gem or two-homer day that stand out from Turner’s season. But Turner is the most heavily lauded Michigan player for the game-to-game consistency that put him ahead of the Wolverines’ offensive statistics and in the national spotlight.
