Sophomore Brayden Jefferis was named the winner of the American Baseball Coaching Association and Rawlings Golden Glove award at third base, the organization announced Wednesday.
Jefferis’ honor comes on the back of a breakout year for the Michigan baseball team where he slashed a .355/.455/.491, with his on-base percentage being the highest on the team. He especially excelled in the infield, posting the 12th-best DRS in the nation with 16.04, along with a fielding percentage of .974 by the end of the season. Jefferis truly broke out in conference play, exemplified by strong games against Washington and Maryland.
The Golden Glove award is given out to the player thought to be the most impactful in each defensive position in all of Division 1 collegiate baseball. For the finalists, there are three players selected from each infield position, along with the battery, and six total outfielders for a total of 24 finalists.
Jefferis became the Wolverines’ second-ever Golden Glove finalist after former infielder Cole Caruso was also chosen at third base in 2024. He is the only player to win the award who did not play in an NCAA regional, and one of two Big Ten winners alongside UCLA first baseman and Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player Mulivai Levu Jr.
After registering just four errors on 152 attempts at a crucial position with little room for error, Jefferis cements himself in history as Michigan’s first Golden Glove winner in the 19-year history of the award.
