Something about the end of a slow weekend compels college students and families alike to go out for a relaxed brunch. In just three years since its arrival to Ann Arbor, Stray Hen Cafe has cemented itself as the city’s must-try weekend brunch staple. Beloved for its cozy yet modern ambience, reasonable prices and versatile menu, the cafe has quickly become a favorite among Ann Arbor residents, with a line out the door every Sunday.
Stray Hen’s menu offers something for every brunch enthusiast. Craving something sweet? Try their locally-viral waffle flight. Prefer something hearty and savory to power you through the day? Try their breakfast bowls or sandwiches. Want a cup of coffee to get your morning caffeine fix? Try one of the many drinks their baristas serve from their coffee bar.
Owner Chris Fronimos spoke with The Michigan Daily about Stray Hen’s impact on the local community.
“I’m super proud of our accomplishments and happy that the people of Ann Arbor have accepted us as the brunch spot in Ann Arbor,” Fronimos said. “We’re also excited that people feel like we’re the neighborhood spot, we’re not just the student spot.”
He also emphasized the importance of cultivating an approachable environment that draws people in.
“I know when I went out for brunch on Sundays, it was somewhere that I felt comfortable,” Fronimos said. “I knew the people, I knew their smiles, I felt like they wanted me there. I greatly appreciate that people feel we’re that spot in Ann Arbor.”
Along with its staff’s warm attitude, Stray Hen’s ambience contributes to its welcoming feel. The eye-catching, quirky wall decor and calming vines draped from the ceiling work together to craft an eating experience that feels quintessentially “Ann Arbor.”
