Celebrating Mashujaa Day in Kiambu – Kenya News Agency

The Mashujaa celebrations in Kiambu County took place today at HGM Ting’ang’a Primary School, led by Senior Deputy County Commissioner Titus. M. Macharia.

Mashujaa Day is a national holiday in Kenya which is observed on October 20th and collectively honors all those who contributed to the struggle for Kenya’s independence or made positive contributions in post-independence Kenya.

Nationally, the event was held in Kwale County and was led by His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto.

In his speech, read by Kiambu Municipal Manager John Njoroge, Kiambu Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi recognized the efforts of the Mau Mau heroes in their struggle for the independence of this country.

The governor highlighted key developments that his administration has achieved in the two years since taking office.

“Since my administration took office, there have been significant milestones in development across all sectors, notably in health, education, agriculture, and tourism,” he stated.

He further noted his commitment to securing modern and affordable housing across the county in collaboration with the national government.

He also emphasized his campaign, dubbed “Making Kiambu Great Again,” by ensuring that no sector is left behind. He noted that his administration has set aside sh 600 million as a county development fund in his first term, to be allocated to the 60 wards in the county.

In the education sector, Wamatangi noted that the education program titled “Leave No Child Behind” has constructed 109 ECDE centers already and the rest will be completed in all 524 primary schools in the county, by 2026. In addition, the comprehensive feeding program benefits more than 39,000 students joining the ECDEs. Furthermore, the bursary fund has been boosted with a sh 500 million budget allocation, benefiting over 100,000 students per sub-county and more than 1,500 per ward.

He noted that the health sector has not been left behind, as his administration has overseen the renovation of Level 3 and Level 4 hospitals in the county.

Additionally, 16 Level 3 hospitals have been constructed across the county, and modern health equipment has been installed. The health management information system program implemented has ensured accountability in the running of health operations in various facilities across the county.

In attendance were the area MCA Lawrence Mwaura Kiambu Township ward MCA Francis Koina, the Kiambu Municipal Manager, the secretary Karundu Arc Foundation Jennifer Karondu among other didnitaries.

The president’s speech was read by Senior Deputy County Commissioner Mr. T.M. Macharia, who insisted that elected leaders work together and serve Kenyans wholeheartedly, regardless of ethnic or tribal backgrounds.
