LAS VEGAS — An intriguing matchup between two teams from opposite ends of the country is set for Friday night, as the UNLV Rebels prepare to host the Syracuse Orange.

The peculiar case of UNLV football continues to reign off the field, but the team on the field continues to try to keep up its impressive start. Even with Matthew Sluka electing to leave the team after three games, the Rebels managed to run away with a huge 59-14 win over Fresno State to kick off their Mountain West schedule. Hajj Malik Williams stepped in at quarterback and showed the type of dual-threat he is, throwing for three touchdowns, and rushing for another. It might be a long road for UNLV to prove they are any type of national power, but a good performance on Friday might convince some skeptics.
The Orange are not traveling all the way to Sin City for a vacation. They are still trying to shake off a disappointing loss at home to new ACC school Stanford in Week 4. Syracuse beat up Holy Cross last week in the lead-up to their first road contest of the season. If they want to knock off a top-25 team like the Rebels, former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord and the Orange offense will need to keep up with the Rebels’ high-flying attack.
This will be the first-ever meeting between Syracuse and UNLV on the gridiron.
