DETROIT — Just a few days removed from a tough loss in Manhattan, the Detroit Red Wings look to get revenge on the New York Rangers when they meet in Detroit on Thursday night.
These two teams met at Madison Square Garden on Monday night, the Red Wings first road game of the 2024-25 season. Unfortunately, things did not go Detroit’s way, as they fell behind after a solid first period, leading to a 4-1 loss. Captain Dylan Larkin had the lone goal for the Wings, while Mika Zibanejad’s three points, along with the goals from Chris Kreider, Reilly Smith and Alexi Lafreniere, helped the Blueshirts to victory.
It was not the best offensive outing for the Red Wings, who felt pretty confident after their shutout win over the Nashville Predators last Saturday. However, it shows that some growing pains are still afoot for the team looking to end its long playoff drought. If they can come out with some jump on Thursday night, that can put them on the right path to splitting the week with the Rangers.
The Rangers certainly have the team to make another deep run in the playoffs. With an all-world goaltender in Igor Shesterkin and talented scoring threats in Zinbanejad and Artemi Panarin, New York is a force to be reckoned with once again.
The Red Wings have lost four straight meetings with the Rangers dating back to last season.
