According to a report, North Dakota forward Jayden Perron is transferring to Michigan.
Perron recorded 117 points in two seasons with the Chicago Steel in the USHL, including 24 goals and 48 assists in the 2022-23 season. Perron is added to the list of Steel-turned-Wolverines — including names such as junior defenseman Luca Fantilli, sophomore forward Nick Moldenhauer and freshman forward Michael Hage.
In the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Perron was drafted to the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round. Perron spent the last two seasons with the Fighting Hawks, putting up 18 and 19 points each year, respectively. On March 23, North Dakota fired coach Brad Berry after 10 years at the helm.
At 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, Perron certainly isn’t a bruiser as a forward, but his skill can add to Michigan’s offensive production. This season, he put up a shot percentage of .127 on 79 attempts, a percentage that would rank third out of Wolverines with at least 50 shots.
Following transfer portal entries from sophomore forwards William Whitelaw and Tanner Rowe, as well as junior forward Jackson Hallum signing an entry-level NHL contract, Perron is the first new forward coming to Michigan next season. His scoring talent should bolster the Wolverines’ offense, which was inconsistent at times this year.
