After rising late in the weeks leading up to the 2025 NHL Draft due to impressive measurables and strong play, Michigan sophomore forward Will Horcoff is the first Wolverine to be selected in this year’s draft.
Drafted as a first-round pick and 24th overall, Horcoff is the newest member of the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.
Midway through last season, Horcoff joined Michigan from the U.S. National Team Development Program. Despite the limited time to integrate into the roster and nightly lineups, Horcoff gave the Wolverines a much-needed positive impact.
In just 18 games, Horcoff notched four points and six assists. He impressed early, earning five points in his first five games, which included two power play goals.
Additionally, at six-foot-four, Horcoff is not afraid to use his big frame to make an impact. With this size, Horcoff is successful in front of the net and on the boards as he imposes his will on opponents.
Though Horcoff likely has more time with Michigan, the Penguins will now be waiting for the frame and skills that have helped him thrive in Ann Arbor so far.
