After eight seasons, coach Jen Klein’s time with the Michigan women’s soccer team has come to a close. The announcement of her resignation came Thursday, with Klein citing her desire to pursue other professional opportunities.
“It was truly an honor,” Klein said in the announcement. “I will cherish the memories I made during my time in Ann Arbor and at Michigan.”
When Klein took the head coaching mantle in 2018, the Wolverines hadn’t managed a Big Ten Tournament title since 1999. Just three years into her tenure, she broke that narrative. In 2021, Michigan was crowned the Big Ten Tournament champions, made a push all the way to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals and tied the program record for wins in a single season with 18.
Throughout her tenure, Klein earned a 72-58-21 record and led the Wolverines to the NCAA tournament three times. She coached her Michigan players to 40 all-Big Ten Awards and notably coached Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jayde Riviere.
“Jen is a great coach and a tremendous person,” Athletics Director Warde Manuel said in the announcement. “We are grateful for everything she did for this university, department, her student-athletes and Michigan women’s soccer.”
Michigan will now begin a national search to find Klein’s successor.
