{"id":1090,"date":"2025-05-01T04:55:19","date_gmt":"2025-05-01T04:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2025\/05\/01\/leo-glam-quits-contract-with-umich\/"},"modified":"2025-05-01T04:55:22","modified_gmt":"2025-05-01T04:55:22","slug":"leo-glam-quits-contract-with-umich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2025\/05\/01\/leo-glam-quits-contract-with-umich\/","title":{"rendered":"LEO-GLAM quits contract with UMich"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><em>This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leounion.org\/\">The University of Michigan Librarians, Archivists, and Curators Bargaining Unit<\/a>, a subunit of the Lecturers\u2019 Employee Organization, announced in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DJFAvlCIz6g\/\">Instagram post<\/a> Wednesday morning that they will be quitting their contract with the University after four months of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/news\/administration\/leo-glam-holds-rally-supporting-lecturers-archivists-and-curators-amid-contract-negotiations\/\">bargaining<\/a> over a new contract. LEO-GLAM\u2019s 2025 bargaining <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1WLxwef29GktRJ7d3o1VpEXORQ8GWTumnspz3X_yDpYs\/edit?tab=t.0\">platform<\/a> lays out their contract goals, which include higher salaries, more flexible work schedules and more accessible workplaces. Following the initial deadline for negotiations of April 20, LEO-GLAM announced they would quit their contract and continue negotiating.<\/p>\n<p>Meredith Kahn, the LEO-GLAM campus chair, wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1YQkr9ZOOCrrCLmlrYggDL630RVUpqmk_\/view?usp=sharing\">press release<\/a> that the main issue left to resolve for their new contract is salary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverall, negotiations with our employer have been professional and productive,\u201d Kahn wrote. \u201cThe only item left on the table is salary. We believe we can reach an agreement soon. However, our members are willing to escalate, if necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-1    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>LEO organizer Natalie McCormick wrote in the release that since LEO-GLAM has quit their contract, they would be willing and able to go on strike in 30 days if negotiations are still not completed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThirty days after this announcement the union (LEO-GLAM) would no longer be in contractual violation of its \u2018no strike\u2019 clause, should the union members vote to strike,\u201d the press release read. \u201cEarlier this week, LEO-GLAM announced that 85% of members have pledged to strike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an email to The Michigan Daily, University spokesperson Kay Jarvis wrote that the University remains committed to working toward a solution that is in the best interests of all parties involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University\u2019s negotiators are working diligently with LEO-GLAM to resolve the remaining issues to the long-term, sustainable best interests of our librarians, archivists and curators, the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint Campuses and our U-M community,\u201d Jarvis wrote.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Michigan Daily News Staff can be reached at <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/news\/news-briefs\/leo-glam-quits-contract-with-umich\/mailto:news@michigandaily.com\"><em>news@michigandaily.com<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-2    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<aside>\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p><h3 class=\"jp-relatedposts-headline\"><em>Related articles<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
