{"id":4690,"date":"2026-04-10T07:49:05","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T07:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2026\/04\/10\/pinball-petes-launches-soft-opening-of-new-liberty-street-location\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T07:49:05","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T07:49:05","slug":"pinball-petes-launches-soft-opening-of-new-liberty-street-location","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2026\/04\/10\/pinball-petes-launches-soft-opening-of-new-liberty-street-location\/","title":{"rendered":"Pinball Pete\u2019s launches soft opening of new Liberty Street location"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>After about 19 months of reconstruction, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinballpetes.org\/\">Pinball Pete\u2019s<\/a> held a soft opening \u2014 an initial test launch \u2014 of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/news\/business\/pinball-petes-to-begin-construction-at-new-location-on-east-liberty\/\">new location<\/a> at 500 East Liberty St Friday. The arcade was previously located in the Galleria Mall on South University Avenue for 32 years until <a href=\"https:\/\/www.landmarkproperties.com\/\">Landmark Properties<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/news\/business\/galleria-mall-businesses-including-pinball-petes-to-move-due-to-new-high-rise-development\/\">bought<\/a> the building to construct \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.landmarkproperties.com\/landmark-properties-acquires-galleria-mall-in-ann-arbor-michigan\/\">The Metropolitan<\/a>,\u201d an 18-story high-rise development.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new space features both a main floor and an underground level. Visitors could freely walk in and explore rows filled with various game machines, while employees worked to continue setting up finishing touches throughout the venue.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Michigan Daily, Tapper Arnold, an employee at Pinball Pete\u2019s, said the redevelopment process was challenging. Arnold said the business had to store material off-site because their new location was not yet ready for occupation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had to move everything to a third party to have it stored outside while this space was developed, so it was kind of hard to have everything tucked away for almost like six months,\u201d Tapper Arnold said. \u201cSo once we did finally get everything out, we got it all up and going as fast as possible, and we were able to open in, I think, three weeks.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-1    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>Ted Arnold, Pinball Pete\u2019s owner, told The Daily he intentionally planned for the arcade to reopen in time to coincide with large community events such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aafilmfest.org\/\">Ann Arbor Film Festival<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.annarbor.org\/cannabis\/hash-bash\/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_term=&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=20310099081&amp;gbraid=0AAAAAD3G4ln61O3lu3hwT1UKMNdFXAXs0&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw1ZjOBhCmARIsADDuFTBHBKI2GKi-kGoKICqSD3rRqyAOmyJxwjOJymJPHbvN-EPKPXS9Y4gaAjAYEALw_wcB\">Hash Bash<\/a> to capitalize on the city\u2019s increased tourism, even if the business wasn\u2019t completely ready.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just had a lot of overhead and improvements, and I needed to get it open, just so that the people could get a feel for it,\u201d Ted Arnold said. \u201cThose are really critical times to be open. That\u2019s why we just did what we could and got 90% of the games working and open today.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Law School student Evelyn Pigott, who attended the soft opening, told The Daily she thinks East Liberty Street\u2019s high foot traffic makes it a good location for the arcade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve just been seeing them set up in here for the past few weeks because I live around the corner, so I was curious,\u201d Pigott said. \u201cIt was more of a passive thing, but I think it\u2019s a good location for that \u2014 maybe there\u2019s a lot of people that walk by.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>LSA junior Hasan Robert Demir, who visited the soft opening, told The Daily he preferred the new location\u2019s ground-level, accessible layout, as the previous one required visitors to use stairs to reach the underground arcade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-2    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cBefore, (the arcade) was underground,\u201d Demir said. \u201cI\u2019d say it\u2019s probably easier to walk in now, just because you don\u2019t have to go down a bunch of stairs. I wasn\u2019t sure if they even had an elevator at the other location, and I see that they have an elevator here now, so that\u2019s nice.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Daily, Ann Arbor resident Francesca Brunelli, who had previously visited Pinball Pete\u2019s original location, said she was happy the arcade reopened in a more visible area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I have someone that comes here to visit me, I always bring them (to the arcade),\u201d Brunelli said. \u201cI\u2019m happy that they opened another place. I would have been sad if it was just closed. I think it\u2019s a place where it\u2019s easy to get to and maybe more visible than the other one.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After working with other businesses downtown, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/marquee-arts.org\/\">Michigan Theater<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/marquee-arts.org\/state-theatre\/\">State Theatre<\/a>, Ted Arnold said he liked the new community around the arcade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that I know all these people and have met all these people that are helping me \u2026 everybody\u2019s just excited because they feel that this arcade is going to turn this street into an entertainment corridor,\u201d Ted Arnold said. \u201cIt\u2019s really the heart of Ann Arbor, in my opinion.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-3    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>Tapper Arnold said he hopes to ensure every aspect of the arcade, from its machines to its products, works properly for the customers. He said that he and the rest of the staff plan to continue decorating and making the most of the new space, even if it is slightly smaller than the previous location.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just want to make sure all the machines are running how they should be, and the product is ready for everyone,\u201d Tapper Arnold said. \u201cWe\u2019re gonna keep on putting the stuff up. We have more decorating to do. We want to use all the square footage that we have to the best of its ability, because we lost about 4,000.
