{"id":5184,"date":"2026-05-18T06:49:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T06:49:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2026\/05\/18\/how-bad-bunny-inspired-artist-edra-sotos-plastic-chairs-art\/"},"modified":"2026-05-18T06:49:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T06:49:08","slug":"how-bad-bunny-inspired-artist-edra-sotos-plastic-chairs-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2026\/05\/18\/how-bad-bunny-inspired-artist-edra-sotos-plastic-chairs-art\/","title":{"rendered":"How Bad Bunny Inspired Artist Edra Soto&#8217;s Plastic Chairs Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tGrammy winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/music\/music-news\/bad-bunny-super-bowl-2026-halftime-show-cultural-take-1236500226\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/music\/music-news\/bad-bunny-super-bowl-2026-halftime-show-cultural-take-1236500226\/\">Bad Bunny has made quite an impact<\/a> in recent years, including on artist Edra Soto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHaving also grown up in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/puerto-rico\/\" id=\"auto-tag_puerto-rico_1\" data-tag=\"puerto-rico\">Puerto Rico<\/a>, Soto now intentionally repurposes objects and designs from her childhood into pieces of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/art\/\" id=\"auto-tag_art_1\" data-tag=\"art\">art<\/a> that represent life on the small island, such as her upholstered plastic lawn chairs, which are deeply connected to Puerto Rican culture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShe\u2019s also been watching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/bad-bunny\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bad-bunny_1\" data-tag=\"bad-bunny\">Bad Bunny<\/a>\u2018s rise in fame and on the music charts over the last decade, appreciating his outspoken support for his home and community in Puerto Rico. So when the rapper released his 2025 album <em>DeB\u00cd TiRAR M\u00e1S FOToS <\/em>(which went on to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/music\/music-news\/bad-bunny-album-of-the-year-spanish-language-1236489983\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/music\/music-news\/bad-bunny-album-of-the-year-spanish-language-1236489983\/\">win album of the year at the 2026 Grammys<\/a>), and the cover art featured two plastic lawn chairs, she knew it was time to bring her idea to life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI had this idea a whole year before I made them,\u201d Soto recently told <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/05\/07\/style\/bad-bunny-chairs-artist-edra-soto\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/05\/07\/style\/bad-bunny-chairs-artist-edra-soto\" target=\"_blank\">CNN<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI was doubting myself. I was thinking maybe this is too on the nose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tCalled the \u201cBB chairs,\u201d the chairs are covered in cheap fabric featuring Bad Bunny\u2019s face. The designs include his different style eras, such as when he had buzz cuts and wore big sunglasses early in his music career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe chairs are part of the \u201cDancing the Revolution: From Dancehall to Reggaet\u00f3n\u201d exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, which runs until Sept. 20. The \u201cBAILE INoLVIDABLE\u201d artist also makes multiple appearances throughout the show, <em>CNN<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe exhibition \u201cexplores and expands the visual, political, and spiritual histories of dancehall and reggaet\u00f3n through contemporary art \u2014 two dynamic genres that have transcended their grassroots origins to shape global culture,\u201d according to the museum\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSoto\u2019s Bad Bunny chairs also became a limited edition set, unintentionally, as Soto hasn\u2019t been able to find the original fabric she purchased online again. \u201cI\u2019m not able to re-create them the way they are,\u201d she said. \u201cI love the quality of the cheap fabric, just as an aesthetic that is very specific.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOnce the exhibition debuted in April, Soto wrote on Instagram after seeing her chairs featured, \u201cWhat an outstanding accomplishment!! An important history being told in the most memorable setting. So very proud to be a part of it.
