SUNDAY<\/span> PUZZLE <\/strong><\/a>\u2014<\/strong>Hi all! My name is Kiran and I\u2019m excited to be back for my second Sunday puzzle of the summer! It\u2019s somehow almost Memorial Day, which many would consider the official start of summer, and it seems like the weather in Ann Arbor is finally getting the memo! Tricky Clues<\/strong><\/p>\n

26A – \u201cMany a farm-to-table org.\u201d refers to CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture. These programs try to develop closer connections between communities and the places they get their food. Ann Arbor actually has one of these programs through its farm-share initiative, where people can effectively buy a \u201csubscription\u201d to a local farm. I highly recommend it to anyone interested!<\/p>\n

49A – A \u201c\u200b\u200bCharacteristic shared by the protagonists of \u2018Invisible Man\u2019 and \u2018The Turn of the Screw\u2019\u201d is NONAME, with both characters only ever referred to by descriptors. I read and loved both of these books in my high school English class so felt this would be a fun way to reference them!<\/p>\n

4D –  The \u201cHoliday in Pitbull’s \u2018Hotel Room Service\u2019\u201d is INN, as seen in his powerful and evocative lyric \u201cWe at the hotel, motel, Holiday Inn.\u201d This line is a reference to The Sugarhill Gang\u2019s 1979 \u201cRapper\u2019s Delight,\u201d the first commercially successful hip-hop single. <\/p>\n

29D – \u201cWith \u2018hen,\u2019 a Toledo sports mascot\u201d is a MUD hen. The Toledo Mud Hens are the Detroit Tigers’s minor league affiliate. My earliest sports memory is at one of their games in the summer of 2011. I don\u2019t remember anything about the players or the score but I do remember getting a stuffed animal of the mascot \u201cMuddy\u201d the mud hen, which is somewhere in my parent\u2019s basement.<\/p>\n

30D – Here \u201cLate start?\u201d doesn\u2019t refer to one of my pet peeves, but instead to the prefix ISO, as in the start of the word \u201cisolate.\u201d<\/p>\n

45D – While this one may be difficult for those, like me, who were born half a century after the event, the \u201cSuez Crisis leader\u201d in this puzzle is Gamal Abdel NASSER, the second president of Egypt.<\/p>\n

Today’s Theme<\/strong><\/h2>\n

You can find the revealer DOUBLEDOWN at 41-Across, providing a literal description of the modification to the three other theme entries: DOWNDOWNWARDDOG, DOWNDOWNUNDER, and HANDMEDOWNDOWNS (located at 17-, 34-, and 54-Across respectively). All three of these terms are changed from their ordinary state to have the word \u201cdown\u201d doubled.<\/p>\n
