The reputed cancellation is the Wolverines\u2019 first schedule change in connection with the legal drama surrounding Sorsby\u2019s eligibility to compete for Texas Tech in the 2026-2027 football season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c(Michigan) plans to hold further discussions with its athletic staff on prohibiting contests against the Red Raiders, similar to Nebraska and Georgia,\u201d Bellenger reported Monday on X.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sorsby was denied eligibility after the NCAA determined he placed $90,000 in sports wagers over his collegiate career, including bets on his own team during his time as a backup quarterback for Indiana.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-1    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, a Texas judge granted Sorsby an injunction reinstating his eligibility June 8, describing gambling addiction as a mental health <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/49000177\/brendan-sorsby-granted-injunction-vs-ncaa-eligible-play-2026\">issue<\/a> and ruling that Sorsby will suffer a \u201cprobable, imminent and irreparable injury\u201d if unable to play in the upcoming season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDuring that time in September and early October 2022, I placed small bets on sports, including bets on my own team,\u201d Sorsby said in a court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/sports\/college\/indiana\/2026\/05\/30\/brendan-sorsby-placed-2900-bets-for-more-than-30000-while-an-indiana-quarterback\/90329342007\/\">statement<\/a> May 16. \u201cThese bets made me feel like I was supporting the team when I was not playing in games, much like fans betting on their hometown teams to win. It was a way to make me feel more connected to my team when I wasn\u2019t playing. I always bet on Indiana to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bulldogs athletic director Josh Brooks and Cornhuskers athletic director Troy Dannen were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/college-football\/news\/brendan-sorsby-fallout-georgia-nebraska-texas-tech-big-12-big-ten\/\">among<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/49003512\/coaches-ads-disgusted-stunned-brendan-sorsby-ruling\">many<\/a> executives and coaches to publicly express their concerns with the ruling in the following days. Last week, Brooks and Dannen instructed their respective departments not to schedule Texas Tech athletics in the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the Big Ten reportedly considered a similar blanket ban, Michigan responded by cancelling its volleyball game with the Red Raiders \u2014 the contest no longer appears on the MGoBlue schedule <a href=\"https:\/\/mgoblue.com\/sports\/womens-volleyball\/schedule\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe had initial conversations with Texas Tech, but decided to go in a different direction with our volleyball schedule,\u201d Wolverines associate athletic director David Ablauf told The Michigan Daily Wednesday.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-2    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michigan coach Erin Virtue\u2019s squad would have competed against Sorsby\u2019s partner, Red Raiders opposite hitter Gretchen Sigman. After Sigman transferred from Cincinnati in December 2025, Sorsby \u2014 who played for the Bearcats in the 2025-2026 season \u2014 followed her to Lubbock, accepting a $5 million NIL <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sports\/top-transfer-qb-brendan-sorsby-commits-texas-tech--flm-2026-01-05\/\">deal<\/a> in January.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dellenger\u2019s post came three hours after ESPN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/48608889\/texas-tech-qb-brendan-sorsby-enter-gambling-addiction-program-sources-say\">reported<\/a> that Sorsby would leave to enter the NFL supplemental draft.
