{"id":5623,"date":"2026-06-26T01:49:03","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T01:49:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2026\/06\/26\/nimari-burnett-and-roddy-gayle-jr-follow-wolverine-first-rounders-to-the-nba\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T01:49:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T01:49:07","slug":"nimari-burnett-and-roddy-gayle-jr-follow-wolverine-first-rounders-to-the-nba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2026\/06\/26\/nimari-burnett-and-roddy-gayle-jr-follow-wolverine-first-rounders-to-the-nba\/","title":{"rendered":"Nimari Burnett and Roddy Gayle Jr. follow Wolverine first rounders to the NBA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"post-612503\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After going undrafted in the 2026 NBA draft, graduate guard Nimari Burnett and senior guard Roddy Gayle Jr. have since signed temporary contracts with the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/umichbball\/status\/2070096206059982935\">Toronto Raptors<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/umichbball\/status\/2070155702115401789\">Detroit Pistons<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both guards now join their first-rounder counterparts, forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/morez-johnson-jr-drafted-by-dallas-mavericks-with-9th-overall-pick\/\">Morez Johnson Jr<\/a>., forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/yaxel-lendeborg-drafted-11th-overall-by-golden-state-warriors-in-nba-draft\/\">Yaxel Lendeborg<\/a> and junior center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/aday-mara-drafted-no-12-overall-by-oklahoma-city\/\">Aday Mara<\/a> in the league. While the latter group found themselves in mock draft boards throughout the past season, Burnett and Gayle were certainly longer shots. But with no more collegiate eligibility and no signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbl1.com.au\/player-listing\/will-tschetter-6a5fbf5d-3ebf-11f1-907e-0301b4854124#stats\">overseas<\/a> contracts like Will Tschetter\u2019s, there wasn\u2019t any risk in the duo throwing their hats in the ring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Burnett started every game for the Michigan men\u2019s basketball team, averaging 8.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists on just over 37% shooting from beyond the arc. His exhibit-10 contract stipulates that he will play for one year with the Raptors for the league minimum if they choose not to waive him or sign him to a two-way contract ahead of the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gayle, the Wolverines\u2019 bonafide sixth man, was a key factor in Michigan\u2019s championship push, including a 16-point explosion against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/no-1-seed-michigan-pulls-away-from-no-4-seed-alabama-wins-90-77-in-sweet-16\/\">Alabama<\/a>.
