McMorrow launched her campaign last year after Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/michigan-democratic-sen-gary-peters-will-not-seek-reelection-opens-key-senate-seat-in-battleground-state\">declared<\/a> he would not seek reelection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a post to X, McMorrow thanked her supporters and campaign staff while announcing her decision, but did not state the reason behind the suspension.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cToday, I\u2019m announcing that I am suspending my campaign for United States Senate,\u201d McMorrow wrote. \u201cI\u2019m doing it with a deep, deep sense of gratitude. For our thousands of volunteers, for everyone who donated what you could \u2014 building a campaign with zero corporate PAC dollars. For my staff, who built this team up from nothing. I thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McMorrow faced a tight race against <a href=\"https:\/\/abdulforsenate.com\/\">Abdul El-Sayed<\/a>, former Wayne County health director, and\u00a0U.S. Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/stevens.house.gov\/\">Haley Stevens<\/a>, D-Mich. El-Sayed has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/aoc-sides-bernie-backed-progressive-senate-primary-clash-schumer-establishment\">endorsed<\/a> by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., while Stevens has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/06\/05\/us\/politics\/schumer-michigan-democratic-senate-primary.html?eafs_enabled=false\">endorsed<\/a> by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-1    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McMorrow wrote she will support the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, following Michigan\u2019s Aug. 4 primary election. McMorrow also expressed support for other Democratic candidates on the ballot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe win this Senate seat and send Mike Rogers back to Florida for good,\u201d McMorrow wrote.\u00a0\u201cWhoever wins this primary on August 4th will have my full support. Then, let\u2019s elect Jocelyn Benson as our next Governor. Let\u2019s flip the State House, and expand our majority in the State Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/Daa4vboOMQE\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\">video<\/a> posted to Instagram following the announcement, El-Sayed thanked McMorrow for her efforts, and asked her supporters to join his campaign amid the growing involvement from political action groups \u2014 including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aipac.org\/\">American Israel Public Affairs Committee<\/a> \u2014 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/06\/09\/us\/politics\/aipac-haley-stevens-michigan-senate.html\">backing<\/a> Stevens.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c(It was) never a question, despite our policy differences, whether or not Senator McMorrow would show up to fight for my daughters and hers,\u201d El-Sayed said. \u201cBut the question to all of us now is this: Are we willing to allow AIPAC, big corporations, Chuck Schumer, to show up and rig our democracy, to choose who our Democratic nominee is gonna be?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HaleyforMI\/posts\/pfbid08SJX3yARqvSnZ4oYnFpGVzbEV6i83gK6BVG7NWEXgvSTXenkxxEMh7gNSA2MKY2Hl?rdid=ZYCVLcDKIroz8JsS#\">post<\/a> to Facebook, Stevens praised McMorrow\u2019s campaign efforts and work in the <a href=\"https:\/\/senate.michigan.gov\/\">Michigan State Senate<\/a>.
