{"id":6326,"date":"2026-09-05T18:49:05","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T18:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2026\/09\/05\/ann-arbor-teachers-vote-to-ratify-new-contract\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T18:49:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T18:49:09","slug":"ann-arbor-teachers-vote-to-ratify-new-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2026\/09\/05\/ann-arbor-teachers-vote-to-ratify-new-contract\/","title":{"rendered":"Ann Arbor teachers vote to ratify new contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"post-615994\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teachers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/a2ea.org\/\">Ann Arbor Education Association<\/a>, the city\u2019s union of public school teachers and staff, voted to approve the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/news\/news-briefs\/aaps-teachers-set-to-vote-on-new-contract-next-week\/\">tentative agreement<\/a> reached by the union and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.a2schools.org\/\">Ann Arbor Public Schools<\/a> last week, the district announced Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AAPS teachers had been working without a <a href=\"https:\/\/resources.finalsite.net\/images\/v1724445841\/a2schoolsorg\/mhcmbzspsydjiomqcqoh\/AAEA-CBA2022-2025Final03-28-2024.pdf\">contract<\/a> since Dec. 31, 2025, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ugc.production.linktr.ee\/9852160b-256c-4b6c-8250-3e653c58c5cf_AAEA-Press-Release-February-2.pdf\">stopped<\/a> completing unpaid tasks outside of scheduled hours like grading and responding to emails. The AAEA has since been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/news\/ann-arbor\/2026\/06\/strike-to-stalemate-lessons-from-1994-echo-in-ann-arbor-teachers-contract-fight.html\">fighting<\/a> for increased wages to keep up with other school districts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an email to AAPS families, AAPS Superintendent Jazz Parks thanked both bargaining teams and wrote she is glad the two sides came to an agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis agreement reflects a comprehensive process that included mediation and sustained engagement by both parties,\u201d Parks wrote. \u201cThe resulting contract balances support for educators with the district\u2019s obligation to maintain financial stability and continue providing high-quality educational opportunities for all students.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-1    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both sides had previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/news\/news-briefs\/aaps-teachers-reach-tentative-agreement-with-district-after-working-100-days-without-contract\/\">reached<\/a> a separate tentative agreement in April, but 99.6% of AAEA teachers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/news\/news-briefs\/teachers-reject-tentative-agreement-with-aaps-continue-to-work-without-contract\/\">voted against it<\/a> because the agreement would have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DXfAB11m0G2\/?img_index=1\">maintained<\/a> a 1.5% annual salary increase, decreased elementary teachers\u2019 planning time, increased class sizes and capped contributions to healthcare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AAEA has not yet responded to a request for comment or released details of the agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Daily News Editor Dominic Apap can be reached at<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/news\/news-briefs\/ann-arbor-teachers-vote-to-ratify-new-contract\/mailto:dapap@umich.edu\"><em>dapap@umich.edu<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<aside>\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p><h3 class=\"jp-relatedposts-headline\"><em>Related articles<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- .entry-content --><\/p>\n<p>\t<!-- .entry-footer --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Teachers from the Ann Arbor Education Association, the city\u2019s union of public school teachers and staff, voted to approve the tentative agreement reached by the union and Ann Arbor Public Schools last week, the district announced Friday.
