\n\tElton John<\/a> believes his musical\u00a0Tammy Faye<\/a><\/em> flopped on Broadway<\/a> because it was \u201ctoo political for America.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe legendary singer-songwriter recently shared his thoughts with The Sunday Times<\/a><\/em> on the show\u2019s short-lived run on Broadway<\/a>. Tammy Faye<\/em>, which featured John\u2019s music, chronicled the famous televangelist.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe put out two musicals recently, one a huge flop in America and the other a huge hit in England,\u201d he said regarding Tammy Faye<\/em> and The Devil Wears Prada<\/em>, the latter of which is currently at London\u2019s West End.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cTammy Faye<\/em> came out during the U.S. election, and it\u2019s all about how the integration of church and state ruined America, which Ronald Reagan did,\u201d John explained. \u201cIt was too political for America. They don\u2019t really get irony.\u201d The production was previously at the West End in the fall of 2022, where it earned four Olivier Awards nominations.<\/p>\n \n\tThe musical, which the \u201cRocket Man\u201d singer also produced, closed on Dec. 8 last year, just a few weeks after opening at the Palace Theatre in New York City. The production was met with mixed to negative reviews and ultimately failed to capture an audience.<\/p>\n
