The Michigan men\u2019s basketball team\u2019s 2024 recruiting class started with three players. Now two of them are in the portal among four Wolverines players to leave after their first year this season.<\/p>\n
Freshman<\/a> guard Phat Phat Brooks has entered the transfer portal, according<\/a> to ESPN\u2019s Jeff Borzello on X. Brook spent only one year with Michigan after being named the state of Michigan\u2019s Hal Schram Mr. Basketball Award recipient and the first to commit to the Wolverines since 2017.<\/p>\n Brooks played in 15 games off the bench in his one season with Michigan. In 3.2 minutes, he averaged 0.8 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game while shooting 33.3% from the field. Brooks played in the majority of the Wolverines\u2019 nonconference<\/a> games and a few games at the beginning of Big Ten play, but he didn\u2019t play from Dec. 29 to March 2 in the wake of conference season.<\/p>\n When Brooks would play, he often served as a defensive specialist<\/a> and provided a momentary spark for the Wolverines\u2019 guard room. Alongside freshman guards L.J. Cason and Justin Pippen, the trio of Michigan\u2019s freshman guards saw a limited role throughout the season before Cason took on a greater<\/a> role<\/a> in the postseason, Pippen<\/a> was sidelined with an injury for the entire postseason before entering<\/a> the portal and Brooks\u2019 role diminished throughout the year.<\/p>\n
