{"id":812,"date":"2025-04-10T12:49:45","date_gmt":"2025-04-10T12:49:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2025\/04\/10\/from-the-daily-its-time-to-protest\/"},"modified":"2025-04-10T12:49:48","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T12:49:48","slug":"from-the-daily-its-time-to-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tmbglobal.news\/index.php\/2025\/04\/10\/from-the-daily-its-time-to-protest\/","title":{"rendered":"From The Daily: It\u2019s time to protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"post-541767\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Last week, we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/opinion\/editorials\/from-the-daily-in-the-face-of-dei-cuts-campus-must-mobilize\/\">wrote<\/a> that the campus must mobilize in the face of the University of Michigan\u2019s decision to cut its diversity, equity and inclusion programs. In the days since, the need to protest has only grown clearer. University President Santa Ono and the University Board of Regents continue to prove that they don\u2019t have U-M students\u2019 best interests at heart, and with President Donald Trump in the White House, the consequences of their misgovernance will only become more severe for the U-M community.<\/p>\n<p>Ono and the Board capitulated on DEI, and they\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigandaily.com\/news\/news-briefs\/u-m-student-visas-terminated-by-federal-government-rises-from-4-to-12\/\">capitulating<\/a> as the federal government revokes the visas of our fellow Wolverines. They won\u2019t be called to action by silence.<\/p>\n<p>If there was ever a time to protest, it\u2019s now. Come to the Diag at 5 pm on Thursday, April 10, to voice your discontent with the U-M administration.<em> <\/em>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/theumichbsu\/\">Black Student Union<\/a> is leading a demonstration to resist University repression, and it deserves the support of the broader student body. Show up, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/know-your-rights\/protesters-rights#im-attending-a-protest\">know your rights<\/a> and make it clear to Ono and the Board that Wolverines won\u2019t stand for DEI cuts, the deportation of our classmates and a crackdown on our rights. Make the University hear loud and clear that the leaders and the best don\u2019t bow down to authoritarianism.<\/p>\n<p><em>This editorial represents the opinion of The Michigan Daily\u2019s Editorial Board.
