MANCHESTER, MI – State investigators are looking into details of a major house fire in which a man was found dead this week in Washtenaw County.
Firefighters spent more than six hours battling a fatal house fire in Manchester after a neighbor in the 100 block of Riverside Street called 911 for help at 4:12 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7. When first responders arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke in the back of the house and garage – including a neighboring garage fully engulfed in flames.
A 61-year-old man was found dead inside the house once firefighters had beaten back the flames enough to search the structure.
Mike Kouba, assistant chief for Manchester Township Fire Department, said he expects more details to be made publicly available once the fire investigation by Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division is completed.
Kouba declined to comment about whether authorities suspect foul play in the fatal fire but said this may be “quite an interesting story,” depending on what state investigators learn.
Property loss was estimated at about $250,000. Also, one firefighter was injured while at the fatal fire.
