Lucas Raymond scored a power-play goal early in the third period Wednesday to snap a tie and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 in their preseason opener at the United Center.

Raymond snapped a 2-2 tie by scoring on the power play at 3:41 of the third. He took a pass from Dylan Larkin and whipped in a wrist shot from the slot area.

Tyler Motte, Jeff Petry and Olli Maatta also scored for the Red Wings.

Ville Husso played the first two periods, stopping 15-of-17 shots. He passed a significant test in his first game action since Feb. 13 in Edmonton, when he left midway through the first period after suffered his second lower-body injury in four months.

Sebastian Cossa stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third period.

Maatta scored at 14:42 of the third to put Detroit ahead 4-2, picking the top corner of the net with a shot from a sharp angle.

The Red Wings led 1-0 after one period on Motte’s goal at 1:10. He was at the net front when he redirected a pass from Austin Watson past Petr Mrazek.

Motte, signed in the offseason, is expected to start the season on the wing on the fourth line. Watson is a veteran NHL winger in camp on a tryout, hoping his size and toughness are elements the Red Wings like.

Petry tied it at 2-2 with 1:22 remaining in the second period, blasting in a shot from the point through traffic. Carter Mazur made a good diving play to swat the puck to Petry and keep the play alive.

Craig Smith and Teuvo Teravainen scored to give the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead before Petry’s goal.

Chicago dressed some of its top players, including Connor Bedard, Taylor Hall, Seth Jones and former Red Wing Tyler Bertuzzi, who signed with the Blackhawks in the offseason.

These teams will meet Friday at Little Caesars Arena in the Red Wings’ home preseason opener (7 p.m., no TV, livestreamed on detroitredwings.com).
