University of Michigan President Santa Ono responded to a recently deleted Instagram post by the Jewish Voice for Peace at the University of Michigan in a statement released Sunday.

On its Instagram story, JVP reposted an Instagram post calling for “death to Israel.” Instagram removed the post. According to Instagram’s Community Guidelines, the company reserves the right to remove posts that contain credible threats or hate speech.

Ono wrote in the statement that the University supports Instagram’s decision to remove the post.

“We find the post repugnant and support Instagram’s decision to delete the post,” Ono wrote.

Ono also confirmed that JVP has not been officially registered as a U-M student organization since 2016 and has now been removed from Maize Pages to reflect this change.

JVP and the TAHRIR Coalition, a group of more than 90 pro-Palestine organizations, did not respond to request for comment in time for publication.
