After three Michigan players went off the board in the third round of the NHL Draft, it didn’t take long for the first Wolverine to be taken in the fourth round.
With the 101st pick in the draft, the Anaheim Ducks selected incoming freshman Drew Schock. Schock’s father, Harold, played at Michigan from 1993 to 1997.
Lauded for his exceptional skating ability and vision, Schock’s two-way abilities make him an intriguing prospect both for the Ducks and for the Wolverines. After a season of up-and-downs on the blue line and the departures of defensemen graduate Jacob Truscott and senior Ethan Edwards, Schock will have ample opportunity to put his talents on display next year for Michigan.
Schock is also the 3rd Wolverine draftee who spent time with the U.S. National Team Development Program. Along with forwards freshman Will Horcoff and incoming freshman Cole McKinney, Schock is yet another sign of the USNTDP’s strength as a program — and Michigan’s strong connection with it.
Joining Horcoff, McKinney, and other fellow NTDP alums next season, Schock will follow his father’s footsteps to Ann Arbor.
