Cher Gets Candid About Aging: ‘I Hate It’

Date:

It’s safe to say Cher doesn’t agree with the saying, “The older you get, the wiser you are.”

During a recent interview with Gayle King for CBS Mornings, the 79-year-old legendary singer was asked about her thoughts on aging. “I keep waiting for this grown-up feeling to kick in. And I don’t have any hang-ups about aging. Do you?” King asked.

“Yes. I hate it,” Cher bluntly replied before adding, “I’m 10 years older than you, babe,” as King is 70 years old.

The CBS News anchor attempted to offer some benefits of getting older. “But I think we’re we’re wiser. We’re more experienced,” King said, but Cher quickly clarified, “Oh, I’m stupid. I’m not wiser.”

Even after six decades of working in the industry, the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer has shown no signs of slowing down. She’s currently working on her new album, which will be her first collection of original material since 2013. Cher’s also launched a gelato brand called Cherlato, and will release the second part of her memoir next year.

While chatting with King, the Grammy winner also opened up about her relationship with music executive and producer Alexander Edwards, as well as their 40-year age gap.

“Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast,” Cher said. “He just says, you know, you get older, but he said your spirit is younger.”

She noted that their dynamic works because they “laugh all the time,” adding, “I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented. He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”
