SUNDAY PUZZLE –Hello everyone! My name is Tobin and I’m so stoked to share my first ever Sunday crossword! Playing the New York Times crossword (and other games) has been a favorite pastime of mine for a while now, so being able to contribute to the Michigan Daily Games is quite surreal. Completing this puzzle was pretty rewarding, so I hope you have as much fun solving as I had making it!

Tricky Clues
9A. This is one of those random words I see pop up in crosswords, and when I realized it would fit in mine, I thought why not! The clue “Monks’ hoods” refers to COWLS
16A. “Position powers?” doesn’t refer to power in politics or business, but rather the two modes a light switch can be in: ONOFF.
24A. “Club alternatives?” could be so many things because as I just realized, club can mean so many things. But I am referring to lunchtime here where BLTS are alternatives to club sandwiches.
39A. Another one of those random words. An “Archaic term for jar or pot” is CRUSE.
3D. You might be inclined to think “Take the edge off?” has to do with relaxing, but really it refers to smoothing a landscape, or to ERODE.
33D. I couldn’t find a way to clue this word for what it is, so I chose to clue what it isn’t: “Yellow fruit rind that doesn’t make you slip” refers to LEMONPEEL.
Today’s Theme
I kept today’s theme pretty simple, as it was my first time constructing a Sunday crossword. However, if you didn’t pay attention during art in kindergarten or first grade, you might’ve had a harder time figuring it out. The three theme words are at 20-Across with REDRIDINGHOOD, 31-Across with YELLOWTAIL, and 41-Across with BLUECOLLAR. And as the revealer clue hints: the beginning of these words are all the primary colors, which are foundational to an artist’s palette!
