Katey Sagal and Kurt Sutter’s New Passion Project: A Choral Concert

Date:

Katey Sagal and Kurt Sutter have a new passion project: A new choral concert called Khorus Harmonia that they are readying for the Los Angeles stage.

The married couple teamed as creative partners on the unique project with Sagal credited as conceiving the concept and leading it while Sutter is handling the book and staging. Choral arrangement and direction are being done by Steven Argila. It’s all for a good cause, too, as proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Khorus Harmonia, which is described as promising “music and feels in 66 minutes,” will present 10 exclusive performances at Hollywood’s Hudson Theatres. The show opens April 22, and continues through May 2. A one-night preview is scheduled for April 21, with tickets available online ranging from $30 for the preview and $65 general admission.

“Music and singing centers me. Makes me feel whole in broken times,” said Sagal in a statement. “Kurt loves challenging the artistic boundaries of any medium. We both crave the connection of community. That’s why we are doing this. We hope it has the same beautiful impact on you.”

She’s been teasing Khorus Harmonia on Instagram in recent days, see below.

Music is nothing new for Sagal, who has carved out a career as a singer and songwriter alongside her screen work. “My first love was music,” she has said of the craft, which she was first drawn to as a child. In her 20s, she worked as a background singer for such boldfaced names as Bob Dylan, Olivia Newton-John, Etta James, Tanya Tucker and Bette Midler (with her band Harlettes). She made records with the Harlettes for Casablanca Records and Electra records in the early 1980s before releasing her first solo album, Well, with Virgin Records in 1994. Her other albums include 2004’s Room and 2014’s Covered. She now stars in One Piece on Netflix.

Sutter is an acclaimed multi-hyphenate whose credits include The Shield, Sons of Anarchy, Mayans M.C., The Bastard Executioner and The Abandons. He is currently developing two new series, Times of Raff for MGM+, and Nomad, an outlaw biker drama starring Jason Momoa that he co-created with Sons of Anarchy vet Chris Collins.
