Lauren Putz named to All-Big Ten First Team

Date:

Sophomore right fielder Lauren Putz has been at the heart of the Michigan softball team’s success all season. That consistency has earned her a unanimous spot on the All-Big Ten First Team.

After a strong freshman campaign, Putz has reached a new level this season, headlining the Wolverines offense in every facet. She led her team in batting average, OPS, home runs, and RBIs in 2026. She is also one of just three players to rank top five in the aforementioned categories across the Big Ten.

Consistently batting in the top three of the Michigan lineup, Putz has been a stabilizing force for an order that has been overhauled at times. Her ability to dominate with power has allowed her to be decisive in close matchups against Northwestern and Oakland. But her ability to reach base via contact and plate discipline has been just as pertinent — providing opportunities for the bats behind her.

Putz offered plenty of value for the Wolverines outside of the box as well. Michigan coach Bonnie Tholl has lauded Putz’s ability as a base runner both physically and mentally. On top of ranking seventh in Big Ten runs scored, Putz hovered just outside the top ten in stolen bases with ten on the year.

With her total offensive prowess, Putz proved herself as one of the most valuable players in the Big Ten this season. For a Wolverines offense that has gone through highs and lows, she has been the main bright spark all year long.
