Michigan adds transfer Noah Sheffield from Florida State

Date:

The Michigan baseball team gained its second transfer acquisition Friday when sophomore infielder Noah Sheffield announced his commitment via Instagram. Sheffield’s father, Gary, is a nine-time Major League All-Star and World Series champion with the Miami Marlins. Noah, a rising star in his own right, comes to Ann Arbor after two seasons at Florida State.

The Seminoles’ season ended at home, hosting the Tallahassee NCAA Regional before losing in the final to St. John’s. Noah didn’t see any postseason playing time, but started in 26 regular-season games and played in 38 total, split evenly between the outfield, second base and designated hitter. Each of these positions is a viable niche for him with the Wolverines, who could potentially lose junior second baseman Colby Turner to the MLB Draft and struggled with filling the designated hitter role throughout the 2026 season.

In 2026, Noah slashed .250/.331/.438 with 29 RBIs, including one against Michigan Feb 20 at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series in a 6-1 loss for the Wolverines. While he’s not quite the slugger his father was, Noah showed discipline and production at the plate with around a 10% walk rate and .305 BABIP.

Michigan builds on a new pattern of acquiring versatile talent from the portal with the addition. Possessing two years of experience at Florida State, Noah brings a pedigree of success to the Wolverines, who gain a reliable hitter with complementary defensive flexibility.
