Former longtime Albion College head coach Jacob DeCola has embarked to Ann Arbor for an assistant coaching position for the Michigan men’s lacrosse team. The hiring was announced by University of Michigan Athletics. DeCola becomes the latest addition to a coaching staff that recently saw the departure of assistant coach Liam Entenmann, who will continue his playing career for the Premier Lacrosse League’s New York Atlas.
“First, I want to thank the University of Michigan, Coach Conry and his staff for this incredible opportunity,” DeCola said Monday. “I am so excited to be a part of Michigan lacrosse, and I am thrilled to coach in the Big Ten.”
DeCola comes to Michigan after serving 17 years as the Britons’ first-ever head coach, with his most recent honor being an induction into the school’s Hall of Fame after compiling a 171-115 record during his tenure. A six-time MIAA Tournament champion, DeCola brings championship pedigree and experience to a Wolverines group that is coming off an underwhelming season and looking to turn the table in 2027.
“I would like to personally thank Jake for his dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment over the past 17 years,” Albion Director of Athletics Jennifer Rushton said. “Under his guidance, the program achieved sustained success and established a strong foundation for the future.”
DeCola will look to help tweak and improve Michigan in areas such as offensive production and schemes in late moments of games. Coaching younger players such as star attacker Luke Shannehan will be a key part of DeCola’s player advancement strategy.
