Following the conclusion of the 2026 MLB Draft, redshirt sophomore left-hander Keegan O’Hearn has signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Mets. Joining junior second baseman Colby Turner, redshirt sophomore catcher Noah Miller, and senior right-hander David Lally Jr., he is the fourth player from the Michigan baseball team’s roster to sign with an MLB team following the 2026 season.
O’Hearn began his collegiate career with the Wolverines, but redshirted his freshman year and did not see game action due to injury. His sophomore season, he appeared in 17 games with nine starts and three appearances as a reliever on the mound. However, his role was mainly at the plate, where he batted .281, scoring nine runs on nine hits with eight RBIs and two home runs.
In the 2026 season, as a junior, O’Hearn’s role shifted. He held a 6.14 ERA in 11 games, with seven scoreless outings across the season, while also appearing as a pinch runner on five occasions. Against highly-ranked Oregon, O’Hearn pitched a scoreless inning while Michigan was down 3-2 in the seventh, setting them up for a 4-3 walk-off victory.
By signing with New York, O’Hearn joins former Wolverines infielder Mitch Voit, who was drafted to the Mets in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft. With their fourth professional signee, the Wolverines have big gaps to fill — much of their pitching talent is either graduating or transferring after the 2026 season. While he didn’t have one consistent role during his time at Michigan, O’Hearn’s versatile skill set now earns him a well-deserved opportunity to prove himself at the next level.
