Teachers from the Ann Arbor Education Association, the city’s union of public school teachers and staff, voted to approve the tentative agreement reached by the union and Ann Arbor Public Schools last week, the district announced Friday.
AAPS teachers had been working without a contract since Dec. 31, 2025, and stopped completing unpaid tasks outside of scheduled hours like grading and responding to emails. The AAEA has since been fighting for increased wages to keep up with other school districts.
In an email to AAPS families, AAPS Superintendent Jazz Parks thanked both bargaining teams and wrote she is glad the two sides came to an agreement.
“This agreement reflects a comprehensive process that included mediation and sustained engagement by both parties,” Parks wrote. “The resulting contract balances support for educators with the district’s obligation to maintain financial stability and continue providing high-quality educational opportunities for all students.”
Both sides had previously reached a separate tentative agreement in April, but 99.6% of AAEA teachers voted against it because the agreement would have maintained a 1.5% annual salary increase, decreased elementary teachers’ planning time, increased class sizes and capped contributions to healthcare.
The AAEA has not yet responded to a request for comment or released details of the agreement.
